Loud, colourful, fast and frantic, this adaptation of Shakespeare’s tale of star crossed lovers is about as far from traditional theatre as you could imagine. Played by Leonardo Di Caprio and Clare Danes, the young couple at the centre of the story must still overcome their families’ bitter feuding in order to be together, but now they do so in violent Verona Beach, Florida, a place where swords have been replaced by guns, and where their soundtrack is blazing rock music. This one-page film guide is designed to support pre and post screening discussions around the film with accompanying teacher notes, which can help teachers build discussion around character, different genres and key message of the film . Into Film has curated two thought-provoking seasons of films, in which bullying is a major theme - for Primary and Secondary school children - to help teachers and pupils explore the issues surrounding the anti-bullying theme, ‘Words Can Hurt’. This immersive, exciting and varied resource will take young people on a quest to become Chopstick Warriors by teaching them about the history and handling of chopsticks. They will teach others and perform a range of challenges to perfect the art of the chopstick, then battle other competitors in school, culminating in The Rice Challenge, with the intention of being crowned Chopstick Master. Teachers are provided with a fun downloadable ‘Chopstick Challenge' resource pack that includes how to create and run a Chopstick League within their school. This is an easy to use end of term resource designed to bring the school community together with an engaging and challenging project to help celebrate the end of the school year. The DVD is on general release from July 11th 2016. Mythbusters: Respect for IP uses an online ‘mythbusting' quiz to challenge young people into confronting common perceptions about intellectual property and film viewing choices. Students can then conduct their own research into the topic of respect for IP, before bringing it all together and creating their own quiz to challenge friends and family. This assembly, produced in partnership with The Industry Trust, The Intellectual Property Office and FACT is for students aged 14-19 to consider the impact and ethics of film piracy, the consequences of downloading a film illegally and the impact of film piracy on the creative industries and creative individuals, including themselves. The message of the assembly is a positive one, giving students information about where to download films legally, how they protect their own work and consider using those skills required in the creative industries, which are protected by intellectual property (IP) legislation. Bill tells the story of what ‘really’ happened during Shakespeare’s ‘Lost Years’ - hopeless lute player Bill Shakespeare leaves his family and home in Stratford to follow his dream to become a playwrite in London. Through using the youth made short films made as part of The Moving Minds 2 Filmmaking project, this resource equips young people aged 11-19 and their educators to confidently: • Express ideas about mental health using the medium of film. • Engage with film and filmmaking with increased confidence in order to articulate ideas about what mental health means to them. • Raise self-esteem by participating in engaging personal reflective activities in class or at home. • Work towards their own mental health goals in a personalised Mental Wellbeing Strategies Toolkit. • Be guided by peers and filmmakers alike to make their own Moving Minds 2: Building Resilience for Wellbeing short film, no matter their skill level or equipment. Into Film believes that youth-made films are uniquely useful for starting and supporting discussions about mental health, as they enable the viewer to see the subject through young people’s eyes. It is our hope that youth-made films contribute to destigmatising mental ill health, as well as inspiring engagement with filmmaking as a means to articulate many of the hard to express ideas seen in many mental health conditions.
